On behalf of the Institut für Arbeitsmarkt und Berufsforschung of the German Federal Labour Agency (BA), we conduct a representative company survey on the skills demands and job vacancies in Germany every year. This survey first began in 1989 and is carried out annually in the fourth quarter. Approximately 12,000 to 14,000 companies and public institutions in eastern and western Germany from all industries, regions and company sizes respond to the questionnaires. The survey identifies the volume, trend and structure of labour demand in Germany. There is a particular focus on problems linked to recruitment.

Since 2006, the skills demand and vacancy survey has been modified and is now also conducted each quarter for a smaller, restricted sample. The results are incorporated into the Job Vacancy Statistics of the European Statistical Office Eurostat.

Survey Results:

The results of the survey are annotated and published by IAB in a press release. The data of the survey are highly relevant for the policy advice given by the IAB at European, German Federal and regional levels.
