The trend to the services economy has been a fact for many years. Unlike the early forecasts, however, the growth of the services sector is determined by skilled or intellectual rather than unskilled services. This trend was examined in studies in the eighties and followed up in more recent forecasts of the European economy.

 

Today it seems to be clear that competitiveness and sectoral transitions in the developed countries are dominated by human capital resources accumulated in the services economy.
